Droll Yankees YCPD90 Dipper Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder

The Yankee Dipper features collapsible mechanical perches that are weight-activated using a patented Droll Yankees design. Small birds can perch and eat, but large birds and squirrels on the perches cause them to collapse. They re-set automatically. 21" long tubular feeder with 5 lb seed capacity. Sturdy stainless steel wire hanger will not rust. Metal cap fits snugly so that squirrels cannot pry it off. 4-1/2" diameter seed tube is made of UV stabilized polycarbonate for durability. Tube is long enough so that squirrels can't hang down from the top and reach seed. Interior is properly baffled to direct seed to the seed ports. Four seed ports are positioned around the tube. Metal parts have a burgundy finish.

Here are some great tips for you if you are having problems with Squirrels eating the bird food from your bird feeders. This is a common problem and it has been that way for far too long.

I blame birdfeeder manufacturers and retailers for this as most of the millions of bird feeders sold across the nation are totally inadequate at providing even the basics, when it comes to stopping squirrels stealing bird food from a feeder. Guess they rather you come back for a new feeder every few weeks or so.

Their designs just don't deter these pesky rodents at all and they do not advise potential purchasers that squirrels will steal the bird's food as well as destroy the feeders if they're in a bad mood!

So you should always place any new feeder for your birds in situations that are sufficiently far enough away from any nearby trees, bushes and any other buildings or overhangs. This will stop the squirrels jumping straight onto any of your feeders. This is not really a squirrel proof bird feeder but it could stop the squirrels.

Remember these animals are very strong and acrobatic and a jump of 8 feet or more is nothing to them at any height! Also make sure you locate all your new bird feeders at least 6 feet above the ground as these pesky creatures can jump high in a vertical direction too!

You may think that the extra cost of a well designed bird feeder that has been proofed against squirrels is not such good news. But you have to take into account that these designs are more complicated and much more robust to stand up to the daily squirrel attacks and there for the manufacturing process is always going to be more expensive.

However if you look at the return on your investment you will see that you will save both on bird food costs as well as the costs of replacing the bird feeders that the squirrels will destroy at short intervals. This is a double saving you cannot ignore and also remember that time and hassle you will save by installing a squirrel proofed feeder that will last for years!

So for the next bird feeder in your yard consider a specific squirrel proof design as this really is the only sure way to ensure that your birds get all the food you want them to have and your feeders remain in one piece for years to come.
